Adela Vance, a confident and ambitious advertising executive in her 30s, steps into her office at Mavis Advertising, expecting a promotion. Instead, her boss, Mrs. Thompson, informs her that her position is being eliminated, effective immediately. Stunned and humiliated, Adela packs up her desk and leaves, her colleagues watching with schadenfreude.

Returning home, Adela finds her roommate and friend, Lucy Taft, packing her belongings. Venturing out to a coffee shop, Adela is overwhelmed by the threads she sees connecting everyone and everything. She orders a coffee and a croissant, but her confusion and distraction lead to an erratic outburst, drawing the attention of the barista and other customers. Embarrassed, she leaves and finds solace in a city park, where she offers her croissant to a homeless man. The thread connecting them brightens, filling Adela with a sense of warmth and connection. 

Adela attends a job interview at French Atomic Ad Agency, but her distraction with the threads leads to a poor performance. The interviewers, unimpressed, dismiss her. Disheartened, Adela returns home, her threads dimmer and less vibrant. Months later, Adela is still struggling to find a job. Lucy calls, offering her a chance to volunteer at a homeless shelter where she has been working. Desperate for a change, Adela agrees. At the shelter, she meets Winston, a charismatic resident who reminds her of the beauty in human connections. As she interacts with the residents, the threads of light brighten, filling her with a sense of purpose and belonging. Adela finds herself drawn to the shelter's art program, where she discovers a talent for painting. 

Through her interactions and artistic expressions, Adela begins to heal and find meaning in her life. Six months later, Adela is a regular volunteer and coordinator for the art program at the shelter. Lucy informs her about a job opening for a regional marketing director at the charity’s arts foundation. Overjoyed and tearful, Adela realizes she has found her true passion and purpose. With newfound confidence, she decides to apply for the position, ready to embrace the next chapter of her life.
